Vacuum – The Only Mission that didn’t go Public

Linda said, “Come on… you don’t want to keep the others waiting. Come along.”

Michelle could not move. “COME!” Linda shouted. The sheer noise of  the shout woke Michelle up from her trance and she agreed to follow her to where everyone was. Everyone was sitting still. It looked like they were possessed too.

“What is going on?” asked Michelle. Nobody replied. “I’ll tell you.” said Linda, “See it was not just David and Linda who murdered me. It was someone else too.”

Vacuum – The Return

Edward looked at Helen with disbelief. She saw David’s dead body right before Linda and Sarah found it. Helen could not believe it herself. She was sure no one else could either. They quickly got dressed and went where Linda and Sarah found the body. Everyone was there.

All of them were terrified and sad. Linda was devastated. Even if what he did was wrong. He didn’t deserve to die. All of them prepared to bury him on the moon. Sarah informed Houston of the tragic passing. She put on record that David died when the carrier caught fire.

Vacuum – Find the Truth

Linda was still in trance and there was nothing that they could do. Sarah, Edward and Michael were wondering about this ‘find the truth’ and what it meant. Sarah called Dr. Hill to the carrier.

Dr. Hill came rushing with the first aid kit and carefully applied some after burn lotion on Michael’s chest and his pain was finally under acceptable control. Linda regained consciousness and rushed towards the cockpit without saying a word to others. Rest of them followed her. She had an uncontrollable anger in her eyes.

Vacuum- Hallucinations Part I

There was an eerie silence on the comms. Sarah finally broke the silence by saying, ” Bring the suit to the command module! Let us examine it. Let’s find out how it got here.”

Edward and Linda dragged the suit back to the command module. Jeff Adams was a criminal investigator before he joined NASA. He examined the suit and found out that the suit had been in the carrier for a really long time. It seemed like it had been there since Major Young’s death.

They then reviewed the footage of the carrier’s interior camera. According to the camera, Young crawled back into the carrier but as the carrier was not in use, he couldn’t fix the problem in his suit and died inside. Edward did not let anyone touch the suit as it could still be contaminated so he took it back to the carrier and placed it in a safe box.

Vacuum- The First Quarter

Sunday, 18th May 2008: The crew was strapped in the command module of the spaceship and the ship was in launch sequence sharp at 0900 hours. The commander and mission control collaborated by a final systems check. The systems were a go and the final countdown began. 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 We have lift off…

The largest possible rocket thrusters filled with aviation fuel spurred to life and with a dense cloud of exhaust gases, the spaceship was launched towards outer space. When they reached the outermost layer of earth’s atmosphere, the rocket’s parts were slowly detached from the ship and finally after the detaching sequence, the ship was functional on its own power source.

The ship had been launched into the correct path towards the Alpha station which was the first quarter of the mission. Everyone unfastened their seat belts and could finally move to their stations. The ship specialists ran their routine checks. The mission specialists were debriefed by David and Linda on the final mission plan. On the night of 19th May, all the crew members except David and Linda (who were talking home via the secure communications channel that now came standard with every space travel machine) were sitting together in the command module and talking to each other about previous missions.

All of them knew about the tragic death of Major Daniel but only some of them knew that David, Linda and Sarah were on that mission with Daniel. Deborah was one of them so she asked Sarah about Daniel’s death. Sarah told everyone about the tragic incident.
