Happy Halloween! This year’s halloween special is a horror adventure that has three friends who decide to have a night out at a haunted village in India by lying to their parents about their whereabouts. They visit a lot of places that are said to be haunted and needless to say that they run into trouble. Hope you enjoy their story. I certainly enjoyed writing it.

(Disclaimer: Story is not based on true events but certainly is inspired by true events.)

haunted village in India

31st December, 2013: New Year’s eve is such a joyous occasion maybe that is why the three wicked friends Nitin, Pranav and Daksh decided to have their first night out road trip. They lived in the small city of Rudrapur and never got much of a chance to roam the streets at night. They decided to trick their parents making them think that they were having a night out at each other’s homes. Then on Daksh’s bike and Nitin’s scooty, the three of them were all set to have a road trip all night.

They had previously planned to go to a 24 hour outlet of Mcdonald’s that was about 150 Kms away from their home. But that road had a long traffic jam so they turned back. The clock was nearing the 24 hour mark and they didn’t have a place to celebrate New Year’s yet. Suddenly Pranav proposed an idea of visiting his ancestral village which was supposedly haunted. This idea intrigued Daksh but Nitin, being the scaredy cat of the group, did not like the idea. Due to majority, they decided to visit the supposedly haunted village.

It was almost the New Year. Pranav took them from one of the most secluded routes ever as that was said to be where the most sightings happened. On the route he kept telling scary stories to spook Nitin. They first stopped at a huge old banyan tree. Pointing to the tree, Pranav said, “There have been many suicides here. Well that’s what the police say. In reality, this tree has a spectre of an age old witch that lures people to the tree using her beautiful mesmerizing voice and with a single eye contact she starts to control them and make them do what she wants. Finally she makes them sacrifice themselves by hanging themselves using the banyan roots of this tree. All this generally happens at the third hour of the clock.”

“That’s not at all true. Everything has a scientific explanation and there is nothing like supernatural.” said Nitin. While Pranav told the story, Daksh quietly went behind the tree and hid himself there. Using a voice modulating app he started calling Nitin’s name. “Nitin… Nitin… Come to me… Nitin…

Nitin looked at the tree in slow motion. Pranav could not control his laughter. Daksh stepped out and joined him. Angrily, Nitin said, “Fuck off, both of you. I’m going home.”

Daksh apologized, “I’m sorry, I just couldn’t resist! Cmon, it’s almost New Year and we are about to reach that haunted bridge Pranav told us about. I know you don’t wanna miss that.”

Nitin calmed down. They continued their journey. At a T point of the road, Pranav told them that the left road leads to his village and the right one to the bridge. They took the right road. They saw that the bridge was broken and trickling water noises came from below. Pranav had an idea of filming a werewolf scene as the area was perfect and Nitin was already scared so he can be the victim. Daksh being the devil of the group can be the werewolf and Pranav could be the cameraman.

They shot the scene in about 3 hours. As Daksh was a werewolf, he removed his spectacles and kept them on his bike’s seat. After shooting the scene, Daksh said, ” I was at the farthest end of the bridge and I felt like someone was calling me from under the bridge.”

Nitin said, “I know you are pulling my leg again, stop doing that.”

“No I’m serious!” said Daksh, “You are welcome to try if you don’t believe me.”

Nitin went towards the end with slow steps. To his horror, someone did call his name from under the bridge.

“We gotta go”, he said, “I heard someone calling my name too!”

They quickly started their vehicles and raced back to the T Point. They were in such a hurry that Daksh forgot to put his spectacles on and they fell off from the bike when they took off. He suddenly remembered that and requested that everyone quickly return back. It was past 3 now. They returned back and using flashlight from his phone, Daksh found his spectacles. As he put them on, they heard bushes rattling near the end of the bridge. They quickly started their vehicles and rushed back. They kept on going and never looked back. Nitin was scared out of his wits. They were about to reach the haunted banyan tree when Pranav said, “Don’t look at the tree!!”

Unfortunately Nitin was not paying attention to what he was saying so instinctively his eyes went towards the tree. He couldn’t believe what he saw. He saw a pair of red eyes staring right at him. The last thing he heard was a soft whisper in his ear saying, “Stop and join me!

He abruptly stopped his scooty and Daksh couldn’t control his bike in time so he crashed into his scooty. All three of them were thrown away from their vehicles and due to the speed at which they were going, they were dragged on a rocky path for a whole minute. They were badly injured and could not stand up but somehow Nitin could. He walked towards Daksh’s bike and removed the handle with ease. He then carried this handle to Daksh, smiling as he did so. Daksh saw blood in Nitin’s eyes.

No Escape

Nitin didn’t give Daksh any chance to escape. He started bashing Daksh’s head with the bike handle. He kept saying, “DON’T MAKE FUN OF THE DEAD….” while doing so. Finally when Daksh’s legs stopped flickering, he moved on to Pranav and he also met the same horrible fate. He dropped the handle there and went near the tree and he was still smiling. He made a knob using the banyan roots and hung himself till his last breath.

No one knows what really happened that day. Now you all know…

Don’t make fun of the dead…
