Detective Kabir got another call. This one was from a hospital’s emergency ward. When he reached the hospital, the doctor on call said, “Two brutally beaten up boys were found at the doorstep of the emergency ward. They were dropped here in an Omni van. There were no number plates and no way to identify who dropped them.

We found this pen drive, mobile phones and wallets in their pockets. We called their family using that only. Both of them are stable now and out of danger but none of them have regained consciousness yet. The nearby police station notified you because of a peculiar video on the pen drive. See for yourself.”

He attached the pen drive in a computer system nearby and played the video. The video showed the two boys confessing to beating up a three legged dog and laughing and then a hooded figure comes and beats them with a bat and then with the figure’s legs till they fainted. Then the video shuts off. It’s the same killer, thought Kabir, But how are they still alive? The killer knew that they were alive that is why the killer dropped them at a hospital. This case has gotten much weirder now.

He made sure all the evidence is tagged and bagged properly and went back to the headquarters for further research and to find the link between the murders and attempted murder. The first video was shot at the butcher’s shop. The second video and the third video was shot at the same place. All three had the hooded figure common and all three had people being punished for animal cruelty. All three were confessions. Nischayy was involved somehow as he had a tiff with the first victim and the second one was about to say a name that started with Ni. Kabir had to call Nischayy in for questioning again.

The Questioning

Nischayy willingly came for questioning. Kabir asked him about his whereabouts when the second murder took place and also asked him where he was when the two boys were beaten up. He was at a Go Vegan campaign organized by an emerging software company Nifty Technologies. The campaign was a two day rally and he was busy there all day. He had in and out entries at the office building and it checked out. Nischayy was clearly innocent. He only had connections with the first victim. There was no reason for Kabir to harass him anymore so he let him go.

Then it struck his mind. “Nifty” Technologies also started with a Ni. Priyank could have easily be mentioning a company. Kabir had found his next lead.
